2. Once you've found the one you wish to work with, chant his or her name several times, allowing yourself to be come conscious of the spirit's energy. Once this is felt, converse with the spirit about what you seek, then asking him or her to do what you wish. You should never beg or plead, but you shouldn't be disrespectful either. There is no need to license the spirit to depart. The spirit will depart, quite naturally, when communication is over.
If you wish to give the spirit an offering, which is sometimes appropriate, then put the spirit's sigil on your altar, along with the offering, and light a candle for the spirit of the appropriate planetary color (Sun = Yellow or Gold, Moon = Purple or Silver, Mars = Red, Mercury = Orange, Jupiter = Blue, Venus = Green and Saturn = Black). Tell the spirit that the offering is for him or her and light the candle. Let the candle burn all the way down. Incense can also be used. If you use Incense as an offering, the candle is not necessary.
