41 And they set out from Mount Hor, and encamped at Zalmo'nah.

Zalmonah means giving shade or sheltered. It indicates the protection available to us as we approach the exalted state of consciousness we seek.

42 And they set out from Zalmo'nah, and encamped at Punon.

Punon means darkness, perplexity. It relates to the doubt which must yet be purged from our inner feelings by the light of the Spiritual Consciousness being developed.

43 And they set out from Punon, and encamped at Oboth.

Oboth means waterskins, or leather bottles. This is the realization that it is through the mind (symbolized by water) that we may cleanse the inner consciousness (symbolized by the leather bag or bottle).

44 And they set out from Oboth, and encamped at I'ye-ab'arim, in the territory of Moab.

Iye-abarim means regions beyond. It represents the part of us, that though in Moab (the carnal consciousness), looks beyond to the Promised Land.

45 And they set out from I'yim, and encamped at Dibon-gad.

Dibon-gad means wasting away, consumed. It represents the process of cleaning the inner consciousness of all negativity; consuming it through transmutation.

46 And they set out from Dibon-gad, and encamped at Al'mon-diblatha'im.

Almon-diblathaim translates as hiding of two fig cakes or hiding of troubles. It symbolizes the increase of the vitality as the Spiritual Consciousness grows.

47 And they set out from Al'mon-diblatha'im, and encamped in the mountains of Ab'arim, before Nebo.

48 And they set out from the mountains of Ab'arim, and encamped in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho;

The mountains of Abarim just as Ije-Abarim above, means regions beyond. And the plains of Moab, which means seed of the father or flowing from the father, here represent the developed physical and material which is prepared to cross over into the Promised Land.

49 they encamped by the Jordan from Beth-jes'himoth as far as Abel-shittim in the plains of Moab.

50 And YHVH said to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho,

51 "Say to the people of Israel, When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,

52 then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their figured stones, and destroy all their molten images, and demolish all their high places;

53 and you shall take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given the land to you to possess it.

To drive out all the inhabitants from the Promised Land is reference to the need to clear our inner consciousness from all that is carnal, lustful, materialistic, selfish, critical, hateful and so forth, to make room for the new Spiritual Consciousness to make its home. To destroy all their images means that we must destroy our old negative beliefs which accompany this lower level of consciousness also.  For we will never be free of their power until we have done so.

54 You shall inherit the land by lot according to your families; to a large tribe you shall give a large inheritance, and to a small tribe you shall give a small inheritance; wherever the lot falls to any man, that shall be his; according to the tribes of your fathers you shall inherit.

55 But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those of them whom you let remain shall be as pricks in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall trouble you in the land where you dwell.

56 And I will do to you as I thought to do to them."

If we do not root out all of these negative beliefs, feelings and thoughts, we will not be able to proceed to the Promised Land.
