1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

Spiritual Enlightenment is not found when we are trapped in the Darkness of Materialism.

2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

Spiritual Enlightenment is not found when we are focusing on worldly matters.

3 The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

At this stage of spiritual development, the Soul is actively seeking Spirit.

4 It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother's house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

The Shulamite bringing Solomon into her mother's chamber symbolizes Spirit entering the deepest part of the Soul.  This is the Sacred Marriage or Enlightenment.

5 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

The ideas that promote Inner Peace, through thoughts from Harmonious and Faithful Contemplation of Spirit (the roes and hinds) in a place of solitude, will not disturb the Spiritual Consciousness.

6 Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?

The wilderness symbolizes a state of confusion.  As part of the process of Enlightenment, the mind leaves this behind.  Frankincense symbolizes Faith and Myrrh symbolizes Death.  To be perfumed with these means that the Mind has been transformed through the process of Spiritual Purification.

7 Behold his bed, which is Solomon's; threescore valiant men are about it, of the valiant of Israel.

The men symbolizes the active faculties of the mind.

8 They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.

The men being experts in war and having swords upon their thighs means that these mental facilities are always ready to solve problems.

9 King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon.

The wood of Lebanon was Cedar. It symbolizes Immortality, Resilience, Strength and Elevation.  Solomon having made himself a chariot of this wood means that he acquired these qualities through is spiritual work.  Each of us must do this for ourselves.

10 He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem.

In the bible, Gold and Silver are used to symbolize Value.  Metaphysically, Silver and Gold represent the Soul and Spirit.  The color Purple represents Authority and Royalty.  It is only when we have our Foundation in Love that we are truly enlightened and have ideas that create and support Inner Peace.  Solomon making pillars in this manner symbolizes the spiritual authority he learned as a result of us spiritual work.  This task, too, is ours.

11 Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.

Zion, in Hebrew, is another name for Jerusalem and means Highest Point, and symbolizes ideas that support Inner Peace.  Such a state bring Bliss or Joy.
